A holidaymaker on TikTok has shared a warning to others online to check all the doors to their rooms when staying in a hotel, especially if they’re travelling alone. The warning comes after she realized that someone had been sneaking into her room every night during her stay and at one point they were even in her bedroom as she slept peacefully.
TikToker Lily was enjoying a holiday at the Neptuno Aparthotel in Tenerife but over the course of her stay she began noticing things were off with her hotel room. Lily and her friend kept returning to the room to discover that the door to their balcony was open and while that may be a red flag for some they shrugged it off as them absent-mindedly leaving the door open when they left.
However, upon returning to the room on the fourth and final night to discover the door open again, Lily and her friend finally decided to do some thorough investigation. They soon discovered that, despite there not being a handle to the door on the outside, it was still possible to slide it open. Maybe they hadn’t been alone this whole time.
Lily and her friend believed that they had been locking the door. They probably also assumed that it wouldn’t be possible to open it from the outside due to the lack of a handle (as would most people). The fact that it could be opened all but confirmed that someone had been doing that the whole time the friends had been staying at the hotel.
Always lock your doors
Commenters on TikTok chastised Lily and her friend for not locking their door, but as she would later explain, she thought it was safe. In a second video explaining the situation in depth Lily claims someone had been sneaking into her room during the entirety of her stay. On the first night they even crept in and stole the money she had next to her while she slept.
Viewers shared their own horror stories, some claimed to have even had bad experiences in the exact same hotel Lily was at, “ME AND MY BSF STAYED HERE TOO THE STORIES WE HAVE” wrote one person. When asked what happened the commenter claimed that a member of staff tried to get them to come down to the lounge to sleep with them.
The thought of someone lurking in your room while you’re sound asleep and completely defenseless is a horrific thought and certainly came as a wake up call to Lily and her friend. Thankfully it seems the experience has made her a bit more savvy and she’s hoping to share what she’s learned with others on TikTok, warning viewers to “be extra safe and check things like this on your travels.”
