West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen has recently returned to scoring form after a slow start to the season.
Bowen, who scored the opener in Monday night’s 2-0 win over Derby County in the FA Cup, is currently the Hammers ’ top scorer in all competitions with eight goals.
However, of those eight, three have come in his last two matches, netting both goals in West Ham’s league win over Everton 11 days ago.

Of Bowen’s eight goals, four have come in the Premier League, making him David Moyes’ side’s top scorer in the division, one ahead of striker Gianluca Scamacca and forward Said Benrahma. On top of that, Bowen has scored three goals in the Europa Conference League this season, netting in home wins over Viborg, FCSB and Anderlecht.
Bowen’s form has come under criticism in the first half of the season, having struggled to match the heights of last season and narrowly missing out on England’s 2022 World Cup squad. Having played 28 times for West Ham this season, he is one of only three West Ham players to start in all 20 Premier League matches this season, alongside goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and midfielder Declan Rice.
Manager Moyes and Bowen himself have both criticised the winger’s form this season, with Moyes recently saying that his numbers “ haven’t been acceptable.” One fact that needs to be considered is the record he has this season compared to last season.
In the 2021/22 campaign, Bowen scored 18 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, helping them finish seventh in the Premier League and reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.
However, after 28 games last season, Bowen had just five goals across all fronts, three less than he is on now. Three of those were in the Premier League, adding one more in both the Europa League and the Carabao Cup.
After 28 games last season, Bowen’s five goals were coming at a rate of 424 minutes per goal. This season however, he is scoring much more frequently, netting every 282.75 minutes, helped by three goals in his last two games.
Matches 29 to 35 of last season proved to be of note for Bowen, who scored seven goals in as many games, with West Ham hoping he can do the same this term.
With 13 goals in his final 23 games last season for West Ham, Bowen ended the season with a minutes per goal ratio of 227.2 in all competitions. West Ham will hope that his recently improved form, and history from last season will mean that he can have a strong end to the 2022/23 campaign.
