Why West Ham’s Brentford clash could be moved despite Premier League and Sky Sports decisions

West Ham United head to Brentford next month in one of their final matches of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The Hammers head to the Gtech Community Stadium in their third to last game of the season in what could be a crunch match in their bid to survive in the Premier League, currently sat 15th in the table and only safe via goal difference with ten matches remaining.

With just over a month to go until that game, the Premier League have announced that despite West Ham’s precarious position at the wrong end of the table, it being a London derby, and Brentford still in with a chance of qualifying for Europe, the match has not been selected for coverage by either BT Sport or Sky Sports.

As things stand, because it was not picked for television coverage, the game will take place on Saturday, May 13 at 3pm. However, that may have to be altered due to the Europa Conference League.

West Ham are currently still in European football and this month, face Belgian side Gent over two legs for a place in the semi-finals of a European competition for a second straight season.

Should they get past Gent, they will play either Anderlecht or AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals, making May even busier.

If they reach the semi-finals, their trip to Brentford is set to be rearranged and is likely to be pushed back to Sunday, May 14 with a 2pm kick-off like a number of the Hammers’ other Premier League matches this season.

West Ham travel to Gent on Thursday, April 13 for the first leg of the quarter-finals, hosting the Belgian outfit a week later on Thursday, April 20.
