Why there was a huge crane in Swansea's Parc Tawe

A huge crane has appeared in Swansea's Parc Tawe with much speculation surrounding why it's there. The crane was spotted in the shopping centre car park on Tuesday, June 7, and towered over nearby structures.

A picture of it on social media sparked plenty of theories as to why it might be there, not all entirely serious. Some queried if the crane was part of new developments being introduced into the area whilst others joked it was new student accommodation or a bungee jumping attraction.

A few thought it might be there to lift away cars that had overstayed the time limit in the car park. But there was a far more mundane explanation. The large crane was part of of repairs being made to one of Swansea's favourite family and tourist attractions. You can read more about some of that work here. Sharing the reason for the large crane on social media, Plantasia confirmed that, due to it's "unique and unusual building design", repair work was tricky and needed the help of a large crane to perform maintenance.

Showcasing the repair work on social media, the zoo posted: "Having a very unique and unusual building design is great, but running repairs can often prove tricky A big thank you to Swansea Council for the amazing job today, and thanks to Parc Tawe for the support as always."
