Why Texas A&M’s loss is huge for Georgia

Despite the Georgia Bulldogs winning 34-20 against Florida and keeping their four-game winning streak alive against Florida. Georgia’s win did not pass the eye test for most Georgia fans, but the Dawgs are the top ranked team in the SEC and have a lot of football ahead.

The biggest reason for concern was Carson Beck throwing three interceptions for the second game in a row and not playing his best outside of the fourth quarter.

Even with the sloppy play, the Bulldogs got a blessing in another game this week, with the Texas A&M Aggies suffering a blowout loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks 44-20. Bulldogs fans were watching this one intently because despite ranking below Georgia, Texas A&M still had an undefeated record in the SEC, while Georgia’s SEC record stood at 4-1.

There was a crazy scenario where Texas A&M and LSU could’ve been the two teams to play the SEC championship by winning each of their last four games (with the Aggies beating the Texas Longhorns in the last week of the season), but now that Texas A&M lost, Georgia has the advantage over them. UGA is now No. 1 in the SEC standings.

Georgia and Texas A&M’s tie-breaker will come down to common game winning percentage. The Aggies and Bulldogs share only three common opponents: Florida, Mississippi State, and Texas. Georgia has already won against all of those opponents, so now Texas A&M will have to win against Texas to be tied with Georgia in that tie-breaker. For now, Georgia is in the driver’s seat to represent the conference in the SEC championship.
