WARNING: SUCCESSION SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE SERIES FINALE!
Ready?
Let’s go.
Names from Succession have always been a big part of the characters they belong to. I mean, we’ve been talking about how Shiv will shiv one of her brothers for a while, right?
And in the series finale, a name that we may not have thought about much with a sports background turned out to predict who would end up at the helm of Logan Roy’s company.
Tom last name is Wambsgans. Thanks to a video that’s making its way around the internet on Monday after the finale, it’s the perfect name for the man who is now CEO: Bill Wambsganss was a second baseman for Cleveland. Why is he famous beyond that?
Because he’s the only man to ever deliver an unassisted triple play in the World Series.
Triple play. Get it? YUP. WILD!
Check this out and the reactions from people who realize the surname predicted everything:

The most interesting theory I’ve heard yet on how #succession might end:
Tom Wambsgans beating out the Roy siblings, and ascending the throne, because he shares an obscure last name w/an old baseball player, who made a famous triple play in the 1920 World Series. pic.twitter.com/KLpSnSUZpO

We understand there may have been a second Wambsgans triple play executed last night… pic.twitter.com/xdW9eFF4Tw

Tom Wambsgans’ name, which is bizarre and brought up constantly, was a clue from the very beginning.
The only player in baseball to ever complete a successful unassisted triple play. #Succession #SuccessionFinale #SuccessionHBO pic.twitter.com/NzpmBzw9NR

Wasn’t paying enough attention to Succession to pick up on the baseball clue in Tom Wambsgans’ name. But if you’re scoring at home, credit him with an unassisted triple play on the Roy siblings.

Best #Succession prediction goes to the folks who spotted Wambsgans was the name of a @MLB player from the 1920s who made an unassisted triple play in a World Series https://t.co/SMBoAI7czG
