An Arizona man has been arrested and taken into custody after posting a video of himself spraying produce with insecticide at a local Walmart, officials say.
27-year-old Charles Smith posted a video on Thursday in which he can be seen carrying a can of Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug and Flea Killer around a Walmart Supercenter in Mesa, spraying produce with the can.
Smith allegedly grabbed the can off of a shelf in the store and did not pay for it, reported AZ Family. He proceeded to spray all kinds of items with it, including fruit, vegetables and even a rotisserie chicken.
"Pranks should be actually funny. Like if it's hurting others in the process, why would you do that?" said Alysia Iverson.
Mesa police became aware of the video, which was uploaded to social media and then later deleted, on Friday.
Smith's face and the can are both clearly visible in the video, which assisted law enforcement in apprehending him.
"I think social media has got people doing crazy things out here," said Xavier Griego, a shopper at Walmart. "It's unfortunate that somebody would mess up their whole life, potentially, for something on social media for views."
Mesa police and the Tempe Police Department began a collaborative investigation into the incident, during which they called Smith and questioned him. He admitted to his actions and turned himself in voluntarily.
A Walmart spokesperson confirmed that employees have removed contaminated products and cleaned affected areas of the store.
Smith has been charged with introducing poison, criminal damage, endangerment and theft.
