Why Stamford Bridge will host Champions League games despite Chelsea failing to qualify

  • Shakhtar Donetsk have been unable to play at their home ground, the Donbas Arena, since Russia annexed the Donetsk region in 2014, forcing them to stage previous European fixtures in Germany, Slovenia and Poland.
  • The move to west London remains subject to regulatory approvals, with Chelsea confirming they will work closely with Shakhtar to ensure matchdays run safely and smoothly for all supporters.
  • Shakhtar expressed their gratitude to Chelsea for the arrangement, stating that playing at the historic venue will provide an unforgettable experience for both Ukrainian and English football fans.
  • Chelsea will not be playing in the Champions League this season after they finished 10th in the Premier League last term.
