An eBay bidding war has seen a rare 50p coin being sold for more than £400. The coin in question was released in 2009 to mark 250 years since Kew Gardens opened in 1759.
The Royal Mint estimates that around 210,000 of the coins were made and it was estimated to be worth around £140. But earlier this month, the owners ended up getting £410 plus £5.55 delivery fees.
The online listing for the coin read: "Kew Gardens 50p genuine 2009 from the royal mint SEALED very rare". It had a starting price of £150, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The bidding war saw 12 people vying to buy the coin, which features the famous Chinese Pagoda at the Royal Botanic Garden on the tails side with the Queen's face as normal on the other.
People in possession of a 50p Kew Gardens should first check the date on it before deciding to sell. The Royal Mint reissued a batch of the coins in 2019 to celebrate 50 years of the 50p.
This version doesn’t tend to sell for as much. But you could still be in for an exciting payday if you find one of these, as they can sell for between £70 and £80 on eBay.
