Tottenham made a major statement signing on Wednesday by securing a £40 million deal for Leicester City star James Maddison. Spurs had been tracking the England international for a number of years and finally got their man following the Foxes relegation to the Championship last season.
Maddison will be perfect in new boss Ange Postecoglou's expected 4-3-3 formation, with two attack-minded midfielders employed either side of a defensive pivot to add to the three forwards named.
The fact that Spurs seemingly had it all their own way in the pursuit of 26-year-old Maddison is strange given his 19 goal involvements in 30 Premier League matches last season. The price tag, for someone with just one year left on his contract may have put some clubs off, with Newcastle the only other side to be linked with an interest in Maddison.
