Nine Is a Number With a Job
The number nine appears in Vedic thought as the terminal digit, the last before the cycle resets to ten, which in positional notation returns to one. Multiply any integer by nine and the digits of the product always sum back to nine: 9 x 7 = 63, and 6 + 3 = 9. Ancient mathematicians across cultures noticed this and read it as a signature of completeness, a number that absorbs everything and returns to itself. Navratri's architects were working with that property deliberately. Nine nights is not an arbitrary liturgical duration. It is the span that allows a cycle to run fully through its internal structure and close.
