Why multiple airline bosses are calling for Nats chief to resign

  • National Air Traffic Services ( Nats ) chief executive Martin Rolfe is facing intense calls from airline bosses to resign after a second major flight disruption in under a month.
  • A technical connectivity issue at Nats' Prestwick centre grounded flights across northern UK airports on Monday, resulting in over 200 flight cancellations.
  • Airline leaders from Ryanair , Jet2 , and Wizz Air strongly criticised Nats, with Ryanair demanding Mr Rolfe's immediate resignation and Jet2 planning to bill Nats for disruption costs.
  • Prime Minister Andy Burnham's spokesperson refused to confirm whether the government retains confidence in the Nats chief executive.
  • Nats stated the system fault has been resolved, though the Civil Aviation Authority noted affected passengers are unlikely to receive compensation under extraordinary circumstances rules.
