Matty Longstaff was 'allowed' to train with Newcastle United despite his deadline-day loan switch to Mansfield Town as the League Two side do not have a match this weekend.
The Magpies academy graduate returned from a disappointing loan spell at Aberdeen last month, and was allowed to join the Stags on Monday until the end of the season.
Mansfield are the in-form side in League Two at the moment, winning eight of their last nine matches to sit sixth in the table.

However, Nigel Clough's side are not in action this weekend with their next match at home to Colchester on Tuesday.
It was this lack of a fixture which meant the Stags were happy to allow Longstaff to train with Eddie Howe's side at St James' Park on Friday, where new signing Bruno Guimaraes was introduced to his new team-mates.
The decision was explained on Newcastle's training gallery of the session, which also saw deadline-day arrivals Dan Burn and Matt Targett feature.
The statement read: "Matty Longstaff took part in the session despite joining Mansfield Town on loan on Monday.
"The Stags are without a game this weekend, so allowed Longstaff to train with his parent club before preparations begin in earnest for their home clash with Colchester next week."
Mansfield boss Nigel Clough admits the move for Longstaff came late in the day, and he hopes the 21-year-old can add 'quality' following the team's recent goalless draw with Harrogate Town.
He told the Press Association: "The chance to get Matty Longstaff in came pretty late in the afternoon. He was lined up to go somewhere else, but it didn’t happen.

"We got a shout to see if we wanted to take him and he wants to play because he went to Aberdeen and didn’t play as much as he’d have liked.
"Hopefully, he can supplement our midfield and give us that bit of quality that might have been the difference against Harrogate."
