Why Lindsey Graham’s funeral arrangements have become so complicated

  • Funeral services for the late Senator Lindsey Graham have been delayed until at least next week to accommodate the complex schedules of many attending world leaders, according to South Carolina Senator Tim Scott .
  • Graham died on July 11 after suffering an aortic rupture, according to medical officials.
  • “The funeral arrangements have been complicated by the fact that so many global leaders would like to attend,” Scott said. “The process of figuring out when the National Cathedral would be made available at the exact same time that the global leaders who want to come and all the other national leaders who will be there has made it a little more difficult.” He also stated that an offer has been made for Graham to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol.
  • Tributes to Graham flooded in after his death including from global figures like President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has delayed his trip to the U.S. out of respect for Graham’s funeral.
  • Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to fill the Senate vacancy ahead of a Republican primary on August 11.
