Why Kristaps Porzingis thinks the Boston Celtics’ loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves is ‘great’

It isn’t very often you hear a star player upbeat about a loss, but given the pressure –and lack of learning experiences — that come with ever-growing strings of wins, the reaction of star Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis to his team’s overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves doesn’t seem so odd. “It’s great,” said the Latvian center postgame via The Athletic’s Jared Weiss. “I think we needed — sometimes when you’re winning, it just keeps kind of growing, growing, growing.”

“But, I think when you really get better, either you win or you learn,” added Porzingis, who put up 20 points and 5 rebounds in the 114-109 loss, the Celtics’ first of the 2023-24 season.

“We got to learn something tonight,” he explained. “It’s the losses like this that I think a team grows the most and we need this. Every team needs this.”

“And we need it probably the most because we were undefeated so far and these guys are playing well,” suggested Porzingis.

“So credit to them and all the teams want to beat us. So that’s a big compliment to us.”
