It was a third consecutive defeat for Chelsea in all competitions, and third consecutive in the Premier League thanks to Joe Willock's impressive strike at St James' Park. The Blues fell to Newcastle United and now find themselves in eighth place in the table behind well adrift of the Magpies, who sit third, and eight points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
It was not an afternoon to remember for Graham Potter's side as Chelsea's forwards struggled to fire a shot on goal. The west London managed five efforts and had just seven touches inside of the Newcastle area as they were defeated 1-0.
The Blues now head into the break with much to contemplate. Potter will be without must of his squad but finally with time to take stock of his team and to work out a plan away from a relentless schedule.

The result will not be one many want to look back on but we take a look at the moments you may have missed from Saturday's game below:
Hakim Ziyech runs away
Spirits seemed positive ahead of the game and as usual Chelsea's substitutes underwent a separate warm up to the starting XI. After going through a number of physical drills, the Blues' bench were allowed to collect some balls but it appears nothing is done without a little competition.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Denis Zakaria and Hakim Ziyech enjoyed an intense battle of rock, paper, scissors to dictate who went and gathered one for the group. Swiss international Zakaria was released from the prospect at first attempt while his teammates hit a number of stalemates barely able to contain their excitement.
The duo circled each other, Ziyech looking to jump away from Aubameyang, and threatening to dash away before he eventually lost and ran away to claim a ball for the group to use.
Jorginho's frustration
It's not necessarily uncommon for Jorginho to be caught on his heels and beaten when defending, however the manner he was by Joelinton in the second period will have left many frustrated. The Italian committed himself early and unsuccessfully and fell to the ground as his Brazilian opponent carried Newcastle's attack.
Joelinton continued the move towards Newcastle's box and Jorginho could only bring himself to turn over and slap the ground in disgust rather than try to catch up to play. Joelinton's end product was fortunately not enough to trouble the scoreline.
Christian Pulisic pushed by referee
It's not a scene you see often, if ever, but Chelsea's USA international was pushed by referee Rob Jones. As the clock ticked to the game's final whistle, Jamal Lascelles was on the sidelines purposefully interfering with Marc Cucurella's attempts to take a throw in. The Newcastle substitute earned himself a yellow card, but the action appeared to fire up Pulisic too.
The 24-year-old was soon heading towards Sean Longstaff and Jones intervened early with a two-handed push. The action appeared to catch the American off guard as he stopped himself going backwards to close the gap once again and the referee ended the conflict there.
Kai Havertz vs Dan Burn 2
Chelsea's frustrations came to the fore at the final whistle as players from both teams clashed and had to be separated. The combativity was too little, too late, from the Blues but appeared to start from an issue between Kai Havertz and Dan Burn.
It's not the first time the combination have set fuel to a fire, with Chelsea's win at Stamford Bridge in March seeing the pair come together, and Havertz even appearing to catch the defender with an elbow, before scoring the game winner.
It appears on this occasion, Burn's celebration at the final whistle was at least partially in the direction or vicinity of Havertz, and the German international did not take kindly to it. He needed to be separated from the defender as he ended up in conflict with Jacob Murphy, while Cucurella took his place against Burn and various members of each team began shouting at each other.
Burn explained: "It was the emotion of the game wasn't it? Me and Kai had a few run ins before and it's just part and parcel of the game. It can get the better of you at the times.
"But when you are in that environment and clinging on in stoppage time and wanting to win the game, these things happen."
