Why is Strictly not on tonight? BBC move semi final England v France despite not showing game

Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left furious by the fact that the semi final has been shafted from the show's usual Saturday night slot for World Cup football, despite the BBC not even showing England v France.

There frustration for Strictly viewers last weekend when they were thrown off kilter, as the BBC moved the quarter final from Saturday to Friday, for the knock out stages of the Qatar tournament, even though England didn't play until Sunday. Just like she did a week earlier, Strictly host Tess Daly confirmed another scheduling change for the ballroom phenomenon at the end of last weekend's results show, announcing that it would be on Sunday, with the semi final results airing on a Monday.

Viewers assumed that the Strictly semi final being ousted from its long held Saturday time slot was because BBC One would be showing England v France, however that is not the case, as for the second England match in succession, it will be ITV who do the honours. It's presumed that the BBC have stayed strong on their decision to move Strictly, due to concerns that viewing figures would take a tip as Brits prioritise the World Cup quarter final.

On finding out that Strictly has effectively been shifted to Sunday for 'no reason,' one fan took to Twitter to complain: "The England game is only on ITV there is no football on BBC saturday they changed it to sunday due to the fact they are frightened the viewing figures will be down for Strictly never mind the fans of the show." A second reacted: "Just seen that the BBC is not showing the football on Saturday after all, so they have messed up the Strictly schedule for no reason. What a shambles."

Going into the semi final, Helen Skelton was closing in on long time favourite Hamza Yassin in the odds to win, while things are very close between Molly Rainford and Fleur East on who will be eliminated and miss out on the final.
