Benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex rallied sharply on Thursday after Wednesday’s decline, supported by gains in IT, banking and auto stocks that lifted sentiment on Dalal Street. India VIX, the barometer to assess market anxiety also slipped 5% to 13.95%.

Sensex settled on a strong note, rising 1,534 pts to end the session at 74,316. Nifty closed near the crucial 23,000 mark, gaining 375 pts.
