'Why is Liam Payne suddenly Irish?' Star's weird accent on the red carpet sends Twitter into a frenzy

Following a dramatic Oscar's ceremony, there has been only one question on everyone's lips this morning and that's: What did everyone make of Will Smith's violent outburst towards Chris Rock in an unprecedented moment at the 2022 live awards show?

Well, that was the one question on everyone's lips until Liam Payne stepped onto the red carpet to give his take on the situation and suddenly, there was something else Twitter urgently needed to know. Speaking to Good Morning Britain, the star's accent seemed to have taken on an unusual twang which no one could quite place.

One tweeted: "Wtf is Liam Payne accent about?! He’s from Wolverhampton! Spanish American Irish mix," while another said: "Anyways let’s talk about why tf Liam Payne is suddenly Irish."

Some even thought the one-directioner sounded a bit Irish with one tweeting: "I’ve just woke up and I’m so confused what is going on and why are they interviewing Liam Payne about it and why is he Irish now? It’s too much for a Monday morning". While another said: "Can we please have a collective moment for Liam Payne’s new accent. It has a slight Irish twang and I laughed OUT LOUD"

People seemed to think his accent sounded a little bit Welsh, Irish,, a little bit American and still somehow retained his hometown vibes from Wolverhampton. One said: "What has happened to his voice?" while another agreed: "Should have told Liam it was for a British TV show so he didn’t need to have that bizarre accent."

Liam Payne, aged 28, is one-fifth of the boyband One Direction. He was born in Wolverhampton but has spent time living in California. He has a son named Bear with singer, Cheryl Tweedy.
