Three people in Michigan's Delta County have confirmed measles, the first cases in the local public health jurisdiction since 1989 and the first in the Upper Peninsula this year, according to a news release from Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties. The department announced the cases on Oct. 21 and said it is working with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to investigate and notify anyone who may have been exposed.
Officials have not named any public exposure sites. The health department said possible locations are being evaluated and will be shared if identified. No sites had been announced as of Oct. 23, so residents of Escanaba, Gladstone and nearby communities do not yet know whether they crossed paths with an infected person.
