Why is Gogglebox not on Channel 4 tonight? Fans left 'devastated' at major schedule shake-up

A major staple in TV fans weekly schedule is watching Gogglebox on a Friday evening.

Fans of the show are less than pleased, after Channel 4’s schedule shake-up, meaning Gogglebox is cancelled tonight and replaced with another show.

Viewers are devastated as the show is replaced in its usual 9pm slot by Friday Night Live.

Channel 4 will instead air the brand new Gogglebox episode on Saturday night at the same time.

Announcing the news, Channel 4 said: "It's one for your diary. Brand new Gogglebox isn't on its usual Friday night spot.

"Saturday at 9pm is your go-to for this week over on Channel 4."

Several fans took to Twitter to share their frustrations at the shake-up ruining their Friday ritual.

One disgruntled viewer said: “Moving #Gogglebox to Saturday nights is a stupid idea. If you're gonna move it, Sunday and Thursday are the best choices. Do you actually want to kill off a great show, Channel 4?”

Another said: "You can't move #Gogglebox to a Saturday night to make way for Ben Elton....?"

While a third said: “Is this Gogglebox move to Saturday night permanent?? As this really doesn’t work for me!! #Gogglebox”

Friday Night Live is fronted by Ben Elton and resumes as part of Channel 4's 40th anniversary celebrations.

The programme will feature some of the stars Ben introduced back in the ‘80s like Jo Brand, Harry Enfield and Julian Clary.

They’ll be joined by a host of younger faces for the 90-minute special, which kicks off 40th anniversary celebrations.

Ben, who wrote The Young Ones when he was just 25, went on to create Blackadder alongside Richard Curtis. He said it's impossible to plan his political satire with the ongoing turmoil in government .

With the announcement yesterday that Liz Truss is resigning as the UK’s Prime Minister, he has plenty of content to run with.

Gogglebox is expected to return to its usual Friday night slot next week.
