Gogglebox fans may be confused when they settle down on Friday evening for their weekly fix of laughs and tears from some of the country's favourite families. The hit Channel 4 show during its two runs throughout the year usually airs just before the weekend at 9pm.
It is part of viewers' pre-weekend routine as they join the likes of Manchester's Malone family, sibling duo Sophie and Pete Sandiford, and couple Mica Venn and Marcus Luther on their sofas as they give their opinions on the latest TV shows and breaking news that have got people talking in the last week.
However, this week's episode, due to air on Friday, October 21, is being replaced and in an unusual move, Channel 4 will instead air the brand new Gogglebox episode on Saturday night (October 22) at the same time.
Gogglebox is being replaced by a one-off revival of the stand-up and entertainment show Friday Night Live. The move is being made to celebrate 40 years of Channel 4. Ben Elton will be hosting a revival of the iconic show that aired on the network in the 1980s.
The one-off 90-minute special will 'unite the hottest new wave stand-ups and character comedians alongside some original show legends in a dangerously live night of comedy', according to producers. It will feature some of the future stars Elton introduced back in the ‘80s like Jo Brand, Harry Enfield, and Julian Clary.
Confirming the change, show favourites Simon and Jane shared a snap of themselves on Instagram and said: "We are getting ready for this week’s Gogglebox! *FUN FACT* - for one week only, Gogglebox will be shown on Saturday night! As if things in the country weren’t confusing enough, eh? So, C4, Saturday night at 9pm."
And amid hearing the news throughout the week on Channel 4, fans took to social media to complain. @heyfifi fumed: "Absolute DISGRACE moving Gogglebox to a Saturday ….for a reboot of an old show that may or may not work in 2022…..crap move channel four ……crap move ……. @ch4 #gogglebox." @philearle said: "Can’t believe the news today. How dare they move Gogglebox to Saturday nights. Livid. Broken Britain."
