The Drawer You Never Open
You know the one. It sits at the bottom of the wardrobe, underneath the good saris and the wedding dupattas wrapped in muslin. Inside it: the kurta that faded after one too many washes, the salwar whose elastic gave up, the cotton top you wore through two pregnancies and a house move. You haven't thrown any of it away. You tell yourself you will, someday. But on Visarjan morning, you open that drawer without thinking.
