The Lamp at the Centre Is Not Decoration
The clay pot placed at the heart of the Garba circle is called the Garbha Deep, the womb lamp. A flame burns inside it, visible through small perforations in the clay. The pot is not a stage prop. It is the deity. In the oldest form of this ritual, there was no idol, no image, no murti. The flame inside the perforated clay was Shakti herself, the generative, formless power that the entire circle of dancers was turning around.
