EA Sports have temporarily paused Team of the Week (TOTW) promo squad releases in FIFA 23 during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Team of the Week squads are a weekly promo in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team that award the best-performing players in real life with special, upgraded player items in Ultimate Team. TOTW squads are picked from performances in domestic competitions, but with the 2022 FIFA World Cup falling halfway through the football calendar, EA has paused the TOTW squad releases in FIFA 23.
This means that the TOTW 10 squad release, due to be revealed on Wednesday, November 23 in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team, has been cancelled with no domestic football taking place. This was announced on social media by EA Sports after the release of the TOTW 9 squad, which dropped in FUT on Wednesday, November 16 and will remain in packs until Wednesday, November 23.
In the announcement from EA, it was stated that the TOTW promo releases will resume following the resumption of domestic football. With the World Cup ending on Sunday, December 18, 2022 and most major European leagues back underway after December 26, we predict that the first TOTW release following the World Cup's conclusion could be Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
Another major question being asked is what will happen to FUT Champions rewards, with TOTW player picks and TOTW packs a major incentive for taking part in the weekend league. With no TOTW promo over the next few weeks, FUT Champions rewards will now include minimum overall packs and player picks instead of TOTW player items.
This technically means that promo cards will be included in the FUT Champions rewards, but not guaranteed. There's yet to be any news on what the minimum overalls could be, so keep an eye out for any updates in-game.
EA has released plenty of World Cup-themed content to last the duration of the tournament, more than making up for the absence of TOTW squads. So far, two Path to Glory promo squads have been released featuring live player items that can upgrade based on how far a player's nation progresses in the World Cup.
There's also a World Cup swaps program running alongside the Path to Glory promo, with players able to earn boosted rewards including World Cup Stars player items, FUT World Cup Heroes and Icons and Packs. Ones to Watch player items can also receive a TOTW boost over the next few weeks if their nation wins one game at the World Cup.
FIFA 23 is developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and is now available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PS4, and Xbox One.
