Arsenal were unable to pass their biggest Premier League title test of the season so far as the reigning champions Manchester City beat them 3-1 at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners brought themselves back into the game through a Bukayo Saka penalty after Kevin De Bruyne's opener, but second-half goals from Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland saw City come out victorious.
Mikel Arteta's men fought toe-to-toe with City in the first half but they found themselves behind after 24 minutes with De Bruyne taking advantage of a mistake from Takehiro Tomiyasu. Three minutes before half time though Arsenal were level with Bukayo Saka converting from the penalty spot.
Arsenal's control waned in the second 45 and the substitution made by Guardiola to bring on Manuel Akanji for Riyad Mahrez to move Bernardo Silva up the pitch, worked a treat. City soon began to dominate proceedings and took advantage of another error from the hosts with just under 20 minutes to play.

This time a poor pass forward by Gabriel Magalhaes was intercepted by Silva who released Haaland. The Norway international played in Ilkay Gundogan with Tomiyasu rushing across to cover and subsequently leave Grealish in acres of space who then swept home after a subtle sideways pass from Gundogan.
De Bruyne then raced onto a Gundogan pass before picking out Haaland who took one touch before firing an effort on his weaker foot into the far corner. Understandably as tensions grew throughout the game so did the yellow card count with Arsenal receiving two and City being handed four.
One of those cautions was for Ederson but it was not for his role in the penalty being awarded after he upended Eddie Nketiah. Just a few minutes prior, Anthony Taylor booked the City goalkeeper for timewasting but he was not given a second yellow card for the foul on Nketiah.
It was a clumsy decision from the Brazilian to come out but as he was jumped into by Nketiah and the pair simply collided, Taylor didn't see any malice in the goalkeeper's action.
With the incident a major talking point at half time on Amazon Prime Video, former referee Chris Foy gave his verdict, agreeing with Taylor's decision, saying that Ederson had been "careless and not reckless" in his actions.
He added: "No we don’t [want this type of penalty given all the time], but it’s a good decision and it’s an accurate decision because even though he’s played the ball, Nketiah, he’s clearly tripped by him."
