The King Power Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for this summer's Community Shield after replacing Wembley Stadium for the 100th edition of English football's traditional early season fixture.
Manchester City, who lifted the Premier League title last month, will take on FA Cup winners Liverpool at 5pm on Saturday, July 30. This is the fourth time in five years that six-time winners City will compete for the Community Shield, while the Reds have clinched the plate on 15 occasions previously.
Unlike the past 10 seasons, the game will not take place at Wembley, the traditional venue for cup finals. With the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 final taking place on the same day, Leicester 's King Power Stadium has been named as the new venue for this season's fixture.
Leicester Chief Executive Susan Whelan said in a statement on the club's official website: "Being able to host such a prestigious fixture in our stadium is fantastic news for the city and further underlines Leicester City's long-term commitment to establish Leicestershire as a home for high profile sporting events.
"On behalf of the Football Club, I’d like to thank the FA and all stakeholders who have worked with us on making this possible. We look forward to welcoming teams and supporters from Manchester City and Liverpool to the city in July."
The last time the Community Shield was not hosted at Wembley came in 2012, when City beat Chelsea 3-2 at Villa Park. This was due to the London Olympics, when men's and women's football matches were held at the national stadium. The fixture has also been hosted at a whole array of grounds up and down the country over the years, with Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers meeting at Stamford Bridge back in 1908.

Leicester are the holders of the plate after beating Pep Guardiola's side in last season's fixture. Former Sky Blues striker Kelechi Iheanacho struck the winner with a late penalty. Manchester City and Liverpool last played each other back in 2019 as the Manchester club lifted the Community Shield on penalties.
City held the Premier League and the FA Cup at the time - having won the domestic treble - but faced off with the Reds because Jurgen Klopp's side finished second in the top flight in the 2018/19 season after a pulsating title race which went right down to the final day.
Ticketing and broadcast details for the latest showdown between the two star-studded teams will be announced in due course.
