Chelsea will be hoping the much-improved display against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League midweek is the catalyst for improvement in the Premier League when they return to domestic action against Southampton.
The Blues lost their last 16 first leg tie in Germany 1-0 on Wednesday but, in truth, should have returned to west London with a draw at the very least having had several chances to win the game against the Bundesliga side. A lack of quality in front of goal cost Chelsea at Signal Iduna Park but manager Graham Potter can be encouraged that his side will put that right against bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Saturday.
Chelsea have won just once in 2023 - and only twice in the Premier League since October - but come up against a Southampton side who are without a permanent manager having failed to agree terms with former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch and have won just three matches all season.
