Why Casemiro is on Manchester United bench vs Leicester City

Erik ten Hag has explained why Casemiro is on the bench for Manchester United's match against Leicester on Thursday night.

United recorded back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since February at the weekend with a 1-0 win against Southampton. Although it was not a convincing performance from United, they delivered a spirited defensive display.

Ten Hag named an unchanged starting XI to play Southampton after beating Liverpool at Old Trafford and the Dutchman has used that same approach again for the Reds' match versus Leicester, once again naming an identical starting line up.

That means Cristiano Ronaldo and new signing Casimiro are on the bench, which came as a surprise when the news arrived.

Ten Hag was asked about his team selection ahead of the game and he explained why he picked an unchanged side again.

"Of course, it was an option [Casemiro], a really good option," Ten Hag told MUTV. "But the last two games, we've played quite well and so I want to give them a chance for this game as well. It doesn't say nothing for the future, we will bring players in.

"We have many games, so we will rotate. A difficult start [Leicester's], they are tough opponents, but they play well and they in many games I think they deserved a result. After today, they can get it. We have to go from game to game and keep going."
