Why Bukayo Saka isn't playing for Arsenal against Everton on final day of Premier League season

Bukayo Saka will miss Arsenal’s final game of the season and their title showdown with Everton due to a muscle injury.

The winger was left out of the squad altogether due to the issue, with Gabriel Martinelli starting instead.

The news is a blow to Arsenal, who have to beat Everton at Emirates Stadium if they are to have any chance of winning the Premier League for the first time in 20 years.

“Unfortunately he picked up a small muscle injury in training,” said Mikel Arteta pre-game. “He wasn’t available to play, but fortunately we have some great players, Martinelli steps in.”

Saka had been struggling with a cut to his leg last week ahead of the game at Old Trafford, but appeared to have shaken off that issue.

He was forced to come off towards the end and the winger has now missed Sunday’s game with Everton due to a slight muscle injury.

Saka has been one of Arsenal’s best player this season and is their top scorer. He has scored 20 goals in a season for the first time in his career.
