Why Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko missed Arsenal open training ahead of West Ham clash

The last thing that Arsenal needs is further injury issues after the absence of William Saliba has come at such a bad time for the club. With the open training session at London Colney today both Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko were absent according to Sky reporter James Green.

However, unlike Saliba, who was again missing from the session as he recovers from a back issue, the pair had reasons outside of injury for their lack of participation. Both White and Zinchenko played against Liverpool with the former completing the match whereas the left-back was replaced after the home side’s equaliser by Kieran Tierney.

With Takehiro Tomiyasu out for the remainder of the season, there’s extra emphasis on White staying fit for the final eight matches. Arsenal provided clarity however stating that both White and Zinchenko were completing sessions in the gym inside and that they were not missing the outside training due to injury.

Eddie Nketiah, however, did return for the training session which will come as a much-needed boost to Mikel Arteta. He finally has both of his strikers back in training and potentially available for the visit to West Ham United on Sunday.

Whether Saliba will recover on time however remains to be seen and Arteta could provide clarity at the end of the week in his pre-match press conference. That said, the Spaniard was very reluctant to give much away at all before Liverpool when he refused to give up the identity of a potential returner for the Anfield trip which now appears to have been Nketiah who ended up missing to visit to Merseyside.
