Armed police officers who were seen on Bristol Bridge this afternoon (June 5) were on a training exercise, a force spokesperson has confirmed.
Five marked and unmarked police cars were seen on the bridge and in the area, according to local reports. Pictures from the scene in the city centre showed the cars parked up and officers walking around.
Three firearms units were seen on the bridge at around 4pm today as witnesses reported seeing officers head into near by buildings. Two unmarked vehicles were also spotted around the corner.

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police told BristolLive officers were out on a training exercise in the area.
