Chelsea and Liverpool have played 420 minutes this season and the sides simply couldn’t be separated. The Reds, though, have now claimed two trophies this term from finals against the Blues thanks to penalty shootout victories.
Both sides had plenty of opportunities to win the match in the 120 minutes played, with Liverpool probably having the majority of chances. Chelsea could have and should have taken at least one of their chances, with the west Londoners coming out in the second-half on top in the early exchanges.
"I think like in the last final, the Carabao Cup, no regrets. I told the team I am proud," Thomas Tuchel said to the press after the game. "I was super proud before and happy before the match to arrive with this group. We were sure we were competitive and we could make life very difficult for Liverpool. We did it again.

"We struggled in the first 15 minutes but then we were excellent through the match. It's now 240 minutes of final time and we played 0-0 against maybe the most dangerous attacking team in the world. We created a lot of chances and we deserved them, as they deserved theirs as well."
Being "proud" won’t be too much consolation for Chelsea supporters, however, with the fans once again leaving Wembley with their hearts broken. Amidst all of the chaos, football.london takes a look at some moments you may have missed from the match at Wembley.
Mount’s unwanted Wembley record
Mason Mount has now lost his last six finals at Wembley. It’s a record that no footballer wants and at this point, it almost seems like a curse for the Chelsea attacker.
Mount struggled to get into the game at Wembley, along with the other Blues forwards, and when he did have a chance to find the back of the net in the penalty shootout, he saw his spot-kick denied by Alisson. The 23-year-old has been on the losing side three times in under a year, with the FA Cup final, Carabao Cup final and the European Championships final for England last summer.
Rudiger takes anger out on corner flag
Antonio Rudiger is a unique footballer. The German’s passion and sometimes mischievous antics on the pitch have made him one of the most popular players for the Chelsea supporters.
The soon-to-be Real Madrid centre-back was a busy man all game long at Wembley on Saturday. He had the difficult task of firstly marking Mohamed Salah, until the Liverpool forward limped off injured, and then keeping tabs on the lively Diogo Jota.
Rudiger did well to nullify the threat of the Liverpool attackers when called upon, but frustration - as it so often does - got the better of the Germany international.
In the second-half, Rudiger gave away a corner in what was a really dominant period for the Reds and he turned to the corner flag and punched it. He looked an angry man, someone you wouldn’t mess with.
