Why a giant inflatable crab is perched over a Civic doorway

What's with the giant crab on top of Canberra House?

You certainly wouldn't have needed eagle eyes to spot the huge inflatable crustacean perched on the facade of Canberra House, claws peeking nonchalantly over the edges above the main entrance.

It's a temporary art installation by artist Harrison Witsey, created for the 2026 Canberra Art Biennial, which officially opens on Friday.
