The Welfare Case for the Basket Muzzle
A basket muzzle is the only muzzle design that allows a dog to pant freely, drink water, and accept treats during training. That matters because panting is how dogs regulate body temperature, and a dog that cannot pant is a dog in physiological stress. Fabric sleeve muzzles, the kind most people picture, hold the jaw shut and are appropriate only for brief veterinary procedures lasting under a minute or two. For any situation requiring the dog to wear a muzzle for more than that, a basket muzzle is the only humane option.
