Whoops! Trump Mobile seems to be leaking customer information — and order numbers might be far lower than previously estimated

  • Trump Mobile's site is reportedly vulnerable to a simple exploit that reveals customer data
  • This includes things like addresses and email addresses
  • The exploit also revealed that there are seemingly only around 30,000 pre-orders for the T1 phone

It seems like there’s a new controversy surrounding Trump Mobile and its still-not-available T1 Phone almost every day, and in today’s update, we’re hearing that customer information has seemingly been leaked.

YouTubers Voidzilla and penguinz0 (via TechCrunch), both of whom had ordered the T1 Phone, were reportedly contacted by someone who claimed to have carried out a very simple security exploit on the Trump Mobile website, which gave them access to customer information.

This includes names, addresses, email addresses, and — according to Voidzilla — “everything short of credit card number.”

The source provided proof that they had access to seemingly the whole database, so that’s a lot of leaked information, and neither they nor the YouTubers have managed to get a response about it from Trump Mobile at the time of writing.

The source seemingly doesn't intend to use the data they found, but the data is reportedly still online and accessible to anyone who figures out the exploit.

An unpopular prospect

Interestingly, this data also revealed that seemingly only around 30,000 orders have actually been placed for the T1 Phone, and only from roughly 10,000 distinct customers. It’s unclear whether the Trump Mobile service plan counts as a separate order to the phone, but if so, that would partially account for so many people placing multiple orders.

Regardless, that 30,000 figure is a long, long way short of previous estimates of around 590,000, so it’s not clear what’s going on here. But if there really have only been around 30,000 orders, then the T1 Phone is far from a success, which might explain why it keeps being delayed, because it might no longer be a priority for the company.

None of which is good news for Trump Mobile or its customers, who are not only still waiting for a phone that might never appear, but now have to worry about their information getting into the hands of criminals.
