Who's who in the Cheaters cast? BBC1 drama returns for series two

Joshua McGuire and Susan Wokoma star in BBC1’s Cheaters - (BBC/Clerkenwell)

BBC1’s hit series Cheaters is back for more, with a second batch of episodes arriving on the channel on Tuesday (November 19).

The first episode will air on the channel at 9.45pm and the follow-ups will broadcast weekly — but if you can’t wait that long, they’ll all available to binge now on BBC iPlayer.

In the first season, two strangers – Josh and Fola – had a drunken one-night stand in Finland. After they returned to the UK, they realised they lived next door to each another – and both had partners.

The second season will pick up a few months after the first left off, with Josh and Fola’s relationship having blossomed since the affair.

However, Fola’s divorce from her husband Zack isn’t yet finalised, so she’s keen to take things slow – which isn’t exactly Josh’s speed.

On his end, Josh is nervous about tricky relationship conversations, and he finds himself going to extreme (and unwise) lengths to “give her some space”.

Meanwhile, Zack is quietly determined to win Fola back, while Josh’s scorned ex-girlfriend, Esther, is returning from her travels at long last.

With those returning characters and more familiar faces, here’s a closer look at the cast of Cheaters.

Who’s who in the cast of Cheaters?

Josh and Fola are played by Joshua McGuire (Anatomy of a Scandal, Lovesick) and Susan Wokoma.

He’s also popped up in two episodes of Industry and landed roles in films including Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and Steve McQueen’s 2024 war epic Blitz. McGuire is also an accomplished stage star and, in 2017, trod the boards opposite Daniel Radcliffe in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Wokoma is equally recognisable, thanks to her roles in sitcoms including Chewing Gum, Crazyhead and Year of the Rabbit.

In 2016, she featured in a series of Taskmaster and the versatile star has even leant her voice to a World of Warcraft character.

Esther (Callie Cook), Lars (Cellach Spellman) (BBC/Clerkenwell)

The exes are played by Jack Fox (Riviera, Sanditon) and Callie Cooke (Henpocalypse, Rules of the Game).

“In the first series of Cheaters, writer Oli Lyttelton created a totally believable set of characters whose romantic complications were hilarious and compelling in equal measure,” said Petra Fried of Clerkenwell Films, the production company behind the hit show.

“With the same team in front of and behind the camera, it’s great to have our Cheaters back on the BBC, giving us a chance to see if the two sets of neighbours are managing their newly aligned relationships, and also introducing us to some intriguing newcomers, who viewers will meet in due course…”

The team behind the camera of Cheaters includes executive producers Petra Fried (Baby Reindeer, The End of the F***ing World), Emily Harrison (Somewhere Boy, The End of the F***ing World) and Charlie Langdell (Truelove, Somewhere Boy) for Clerkenwell Films, alongside Cheaters writer and creator Oliver Lyttleton (Cheaters series one, Wedding Season), and Danielle Scott-Haughton for the BBC.

Alex Walsh-Taylor (Truelove, Lovesick) and Elliot Hegarty (Ted Lasso, Lovesick) return as series producer and director respectively.
