Who's leaving Coronation Street this year? All the exits planned for ITV soap in 2022

Coronation Street has promised some huge and dramatic storylines this year.

But with big storylines comes big exits and the ITV soap will be bidding farewell to some of the show's favourite characters in the coming months as a few storylines wrap - and new ones begin.

There will be many twists and turns on the soap before some of these huge exits air as we take a look at who is leaving the Cobbles this year, who might be saying goodbye to the street and whose already left.

Leaving

Emma Brooker will bid farewell to the Cobbles soon in a huge storyline. She has been struggling with the truth after her character - played by Alexandra Mardell - helped to cover up Ted's death.

As her leaving date looms, Emma is getting ever closer to Ted's grandson, but could this be a part of her exit - or will she end up getting in trouble with the police over the car crash earlier this year?

"Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life," Alexandra said as she addressed her exit.

"But I feel it’s the right time for me. I can’t thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories. And for the friendships."

Elsewhere, ITV bosses have also confirmed Rebecca Ryan - who plays Lydia Chambers on the ITV soap - will be exiting the soap soon, but not before Lydia's caused havoc in Adam Barlow's life.

Rebecca was only due to appear on the soap for a short while to complete the Lydia and Adam plot, but she will exit in scenes airing fairly soon as Lydia's stalking of Adam continues to worsen.

It is not yet known how she will exit the show but it is promised it will be in a huge and exciting storyline!

Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) will also be exiting Coronation Street this year, but not before a huge storyline involving his character, Toyah and Abi as Imran's affair comes to light.

However, there's an even bigger twist as soap spoilers have revealed Imran will find out he's the dad to Abi's baby. It is not known whether this will form part of his exit but bosses have promised Imran will go out on a huge storyline.

Charlie is expected to film his final scenes in the coming months, with his final scenes set to air in the summer.

Kel Allen will also bid farewell to her character, Laura Neelan, shortly as her character's health condition worsens.

Laura was diagnosed with stomach cancer and was given just months to live, but she was desperate to sort out her relationship with daughter Kelly before she died. She has also made it her mission to find out what really happened to her estranged husband Rick Neelan.

Could be leaving

Adam Barlow - played by Sam Robertson - was thought to be leaving Coronation Street after the actor admitted he was constantly doing the same scenes. However, he has signed a new contract for the soap now.

"Sometimes you pick up a script and I feel like I am doing that same scene as I did 12 months ago. At first, I was a little bit troubled by it because we did a storyline when Adam had a fling with Carla. I don’t know if it’s too soon for more of that?" he admitted.

Sam Robertson admitted he was struggling with the same storylines - but he has since signed another deal (ITV)

"Tina and I have gone from working together and a lot of harmony to suddenly being at each other’s throats. So it’s been really tough to do that again so soon."

However, sources later claimed bosses were "thrilled" that Sam had signed a new contract with the soap.

Left

Sally Dynevor may have left the ITV soap - but its only temporarily whilst she was busy rehearsing for Dancing On Ice.

Whilst Sally - who plays Sally Metcalfe - has now exited the ITV skating show, she has yet to return to the programme. Sally has been part of a huge storyline with husband Tim, who hid his health battle from her.

She has also been busy arguing with Tim's mum Elaine over his care as he recuperates at home.

"I've hidden behind my character. So to come out after all these years, it's quite daunting. But I'm hoping I'll be ok and it'll go well and that I'll really enjoy the experience and then go back to being Sally Metcalfe in a few weeks," Sally admitted, as she discussed hiding behind her soap character before she signed up to the skating show.

Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) departed the ITV soap in sad scenes earlier in the year. He had been struggling with not having as much money as his friends at school, whilst dad Chesney and step-mum Gemma were struggling to feed them all.

Despite Chesney’s attempts to convince Joseph's nan Linda that everything was fine with the family, she suggested Joseph move with her to Portugal so he could have a more luxurious life with her.

Chesney was heartbroken by Joseph leaving the Cobbles - but maybe he'll return one day?
