New crime drama Joan will debut on ITV this weekend starring Sophie Turner.
The show, which will air on ITV1 and ITVX, is set in London in the 1980s and is based on the true story of Joan Hannington. The series was also filmed in Herne Bay and around Birmingham and elsewhere in the Midlands.
Here are the drama’s cast members, details about how to watch it and what to expect throughout the run of the show.
What is Joan about?
Inspired by the real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington, a prominent figure in the capital's criminal underworld who went by the nickname "The Godmother", the story is set against the "vibrant and aspirational backdrop of 80s London".
The titular Joan is in her twenties and stuck in a marriage to a violent criminal named Gary. Joan escapes after being forced to place her six-year-old daughter, Kelly, in foster care to protect her.
She quickly starts using her charm, intelligence and talent for impersonation and performance to launch a high-stakes criminal career as a skilled jewel thief with the goal of creating a new life and rescuing Kelly.
While developing the script for the show, Anna Symon, the show's creator, is thought to have had multiple meetings with the criminal mastermind, who detailed her own bizarre experiences in the 2002 book I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain's Most Notorious Jewel Thief.
