Most of us have been on a bad first date. Sometimes it’s because of something obvious, like clashing personalities, and other times it’s just an intangible lack of chemistry.
There are certain rules of politeness we tend to follow, such as making the most of the evening while we’re there and letting someone down gently afterward. However, some nonverbal signals are harder to hide.
One woman says she witnessed exactly that while watching a couple on what appeared to be a first date.
What Was Going Wrong On The Date?
TikTok creator Anastasia (@anastasiova) posted a short clip of what appears to be a first date that wasn’t exactly going well.
In the video, a man and a woman sit next to each other at a bar while Anastasia films them from behind. The man has his hand resting on the back of the woman’s chair, leaning in as close as possible. The woman, meanwhile, is perched near the edge of her seat, her body angled as far away from him as possible.
“Who’s gonna tell him?” Anastasia wrote in the video’s text overlay.
She added in the caption, “First and last date.” The clip has since garnered over 2.3 million views.
Telltale Signs Your Date Isn’t Into You
Sometimes you think a date went really well, only to find out the other person isn’t interested in a second one. That’s normal, especially since the signs aren’t always obvious.
As relationship experts told Business Insider, there are ways to quickly tell whether your date is into you. For example, if they seem easily distracted, like checking their phone the moment it lights up, that can be a red flag.
Flirtation can also say a lot. It should feel genuine, even if it’s slightly awkward at first.
One of the most important factors, of course, is body language. Are they leaning in and eager to be close, or crossing their arms and subtly shifting away? Those cues can signal that there might not be a second date.
Viewers clock it quick
In the comments, not everyone immediately understood what was happening until others pointed out the nonverbal cues. Many viewers said the interaction was telling.
“Body language doesn’t lie,” one user wrote.
“Why doesn’t he notice?!” said another.
“…slowly moving into the taxi seat,” joked a third.
One commenter thought Anastasia should’ve gotten involved. “I would be going over pretending I know her tbh,” they wrote.
Anastasia responded, “She left 5 mins after.”
