Who left Bake Off? Full list of 2022 contestants and those voted out

The Great British Bake Off is back signalling all things autumnal and cosy. The popular Channel 4 show, which is presented by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, has introduced a new batch of bakers keen to show off their skills in the famous tent.

As usual, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are back to judge soggy bottoms and offer up handshakes as the new line-up does their best to impress. Contestants this year include a nuclear scientist, a nanny, and a former charity director. You can see the 2022 contestants in full here.

The new series kicked off on Tuesday, September 8, and will air weekly with one contestant making star baker and another getting the boot. Ahead of its launch, Channel 4 shared its hope for the new series.

In a heartfelt statement, they said: "These are challenging times we live in, but we dearly hope the return of Bake Off will bring about a few smiles every Tuesday evening. Perhaps the odd tear too. And maybe a soggy bottom."

Here's a full list of this year's contestants and the ones who have sadly left. We'll keep this article updated each week.

Who left Bake Off?

Janusz - week nine

Baker Janusz (Mark Bourdillon)

It was a bittersweet farewell for the Polish personal assistant from Lancashire who became the latest contestant to be elimniated from the baking show after he failed to impress the judges during the semi-final's Patisserie week.

The Polish-born 34-year-old just missed out on a place in the semi-final but insisted he "wasn't upset" as he congratulated the three finalists.

Maxy - week eight

Maxy (Channel 4)

It was Maxy's turn to leave the competition in Pastry Week - the quarter final of the competition.

The Swedish-born 29-year-old, who herself admitted that it wasn't her week, began baking five years ago, with the arrival of her first daughter.

Kevin - week seven

Kevin (Channel 4)

After leaving the series, Kevin said: "I am nothing but proud. The imposter syndrome was real – coming into this competition I didn’t feel I deserved a place. I feel I can count myself as one of this talented bunch."

Dawn - week six

Dawn (Channel 4)

Upon leaving the series, 60-year-old Dawn from Bedfordshire said: "I love Halloween and at home we tend to really go for it, so my leaving in that week won’t put me off! I always do lots of bakes for the local children and I always try and bake something cool for them, and of course this year it will have added meaning.

"The kids won’t know who I am but the mums and dads will know who I am because it’s a small place where we live, so I think we will have quite a few children come knocking this Halloween."

Carole - week five

Carole's time in the tent has come to an end (Channel 4)

Carole's days were numbered in week five of GBBO, which saw the return of Dessert Week. In the episode which aired on October 11, the bakers got all steamed up in the Signature, tackled a classic lemon meringue pie in the Technical, and were tasked with creating a sponge cake with a surprise inside for the Showstopper.

Upon being told she'd be leaving the tent, 59-year-old 'Compost Carole' (as she was referred to in the show) said: "I'm very proud of myself as I came here to achieve something as I got older." She added that her fellow bakers were a "great bunch of people".

Carole, who sports her trademark pink hair, began her dedicated baking journey with a first birthday cake for her eldest granddaughter Maisie. Since then, she has refined her skills, using YouTube to teach herself the finer techniques of decoration. Her favourite flavours are fruity and punchy.

Rebs and James - week four

Baker James (Mark Bourdillon)

Following week three, which saw nobody sent home, GBBO announced there would be a shock double elimination on Tuesday night. It meant James, 25, and Rebs, 23, became the third and fourth contestants to leave the series.

James and Rebs were both eliminated during Mexican Week after failing to impress the judges. After it was announced, Rebs burst into tears and was comforted by her co-stars, she told cameras she was "devastated" to be leaving.

She added: "Honestly, [The Great British Bake Off] means the world to me. I'm gutted for James as well as he’s such a fabulous person."

No elimination - week three

The judges axed the eliminations this week as two contestants were off sick. Bread Week saw both Rebs and Abdul pull out of the episode due to illness.

Host Matt Lucas told the contestants at the end of the episode: "Nobody is going home, the judges thought the quality of the food and the fact that two people aren't here, that everyone deserved to bake again."

Maisam - week two

Baker Maisam (Mark Bourdillon)

Biscuit Week saw Maisam leave the show, the 18-year-old student and sales assistant from Greater Manchester, said: "I think I am definitely feeling proud as I am only 18 so this is not the end of my baking journey - this is where it starts."

"I have learned so much from being in the tent! This experience has been a complete learning journey that taught me so much from new baking skills and tips to actually challenging myself to bake in an unfamiliar baking environment."

Will - week one

Baker William (Mark Bourdillon)

The 45-year-old was the first to leave the 2022 show. The former charity director failed to impress during Cake Week with his showstopper, a take on his "first London family home", which Paul said was "overbaked" on each of its 11 tiers.

Speaking after being eliminated, Will said: "Obviously I'm disappointed but I'm proud to have made it. There's a lovely bunch of people I've met and I've got an experience that I can definitely talk about and share. I'm proud of that."
