Who is Tyler West on BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2022?

Millions of people will once again be glued to their TV screens at the weekends as Strictly Come Dancing is back.

The popular BBC One dance competition has returned for its 20th series with a host of new celebrities who all have their eye on the Glitterball trophy.

Among those taking to the dancefloor this year is radio and television presenter Tyler West. The 26-year-old, who was born in Sutton, South London, will be known by many as a host on Kiss FM radio.

He hosts weekday afternoons on the station, for which he was nominated for Audio and Radio Industry Awards for best new presenter in 2020. Tyler started his broadcasting career in children’s television, presenting for CBBC, and has also hosted MTV News, HQ Trivia and the red carpet live show for the 2020 Baftas.

Before that, he played handball and represented the GB national team from a young age. Ahead of the show Tyler said being part of Strictly will means a great deal to him and his family who are all huge fans of the show.

Tyler said: "My nan, my mum, my auntie, like every single person in my family watches it religiously. It was the one thing that brought us all together. So the fact that I'm going to be on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor is crazy and it really means a lot to me."

While Tyler has his eye on the main prize, he admits that just taking part in the show is an incredible achievement for him.

He added: "I would love to lift the Glitterball. I would be my mum’s favourite son for the rest of her life. Going from being a 14 year old that never used to talk to anyone or come out of his bedroom on a council estate in South London, to lifting the Glitterball, would be an amazing achievement and a dream come true.

"But either way, just stepping out on the dancefloor week one, I will feel like I have already won."

The celebrities taking part in Strictly this year are Ellie Simmonds, Ellie Taylor, Fleur East, Hamza Yassin, Helen Skelton, James Bye, Jayde Adams, Kaye Adams, Kym Marsh, Matt Goss, Molly Rainford, Richie Anderson, Tony Adams, Tyler West and Will Mellor.

They will be watched and scored by Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas.

Strictly Come Dancing launches at 7pm on Friday, September 23, on BBC One before the first live show airs Saturday, September 24, at 6.45pm. The show had been due to launch on Saturday 17 September but was put back six days following the death of the Queen.
