Who is the Teletubbies 'sun baby' and what is she doing now?

Many 90s babies will remember the iconic Teletubbies, as Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po entertained youngsters up and down the land.

Famous for Noo-Noo and Tubby Toast, the show also featured a 'sun baby' who never failed to put a smile on faces with her adorable giggles as she watched over Teletubbyland. But where is the sun baby now, and what is she doing with her life?

Teletubbies first aired back in 1997 and ran up until 2001. The show returned to CBeebies in 2015.

Shortly before the return seven years ago, Jessica Smith revealed she was the one who played the sun baby on the popular show, having landed the role when she was just nine months old. She wrote on social media: "So I've recently celebrated by 19th birthday and after a lot of thought, I've decided it's time to tell everyone.

"I used to hide it but after a lot of encouragement from my friends at university, I've gained the confidence to come out with it. I am the sun from Teletubbies. There has been quite a few people pretending to be the sun but only I could tell you the real story."

Jessica went on to say that when she was about nine months old, her mum took her for a routine hospital appointment where the midwife told them a local production company were looking for a "smiley baby".

She added she went to several auditions until she was selected, and that while recording, her dad would hold a teddy behind the camera to get her to laugh.

Re-sharing the statement on her Instagram page last year, she confirmed that "a lot has happened since posting". She listed everything she has been through since the post, including attending premieres, teaching dance routines, meeting a "bunch of celebrities", appearing on recording sets, being taken to Germany for a TV show and "loads, loads more."

She said: "I cannot thank everyone enough for the support and guidance I’ve had through the process." Many fans were quick to share their support as one person wrote on Instagram: "Awww wow thanks for making my childhood."

Another added: "You will forever be loved", as a third wrote: "Teletubbies was my childhood."

According to OK!, Jess left acting behind to study dance education at Canterbury Christ Church University and has mainly stayed out of the limelight over the years, apart from a couple of interviews where she opened up about her Teletubbies role.

Jess regularly updates her Instagram with her goings on as many people are quick to comment on how the "Teletubbies sun baby has grown up".
