Who is Sir Tim Laurence at the Queen's funeral?

There will be a wide range of important high-society figures attending the Queen's funeral today.

Among them is Sir Tim Laurence, a retired Royal Navy officer, and husband of Princess Royal Anne - the Queen's duaghter. But, even before his marriage, Sir Laurence had a long-lasting connection with the Royal Family and Queen Elizabeth II herself.

In 1986, he was appointed equerry to the Queen - a senior position where he was a special attendant to the monarch. Over the years, Sir Tim has made several special public appearances, including joining Princess Anne on her royal tour of Australia and Papua New Guinea for the Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen held Sir Tim in high regard, even allowing him to stand on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Trooping the Colour while the RAF flew past. At the time, the Palace said that an exception was made for Sir Tim "as a frequent attendee and support for the Princess Royal on official engagements".

During the national mourning following the death of the Queen, Sir Tim was pictured at RAF Northolt as the Queen's coffin arrived in London from Edinburgh. Laurence will also play a key role in the Queen's state funeral today.

The Royal family will be lead by King Charles III as they march behind the Queen's coffin as it leaves Westminster Hall later today. Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward will be followed closely by Prince William, Prince Harry, and Peter Philips (The Queen's grandson).

They will then be followed by Sir Tim, the Duke of Gloucester and the Queen's nephew, the Earl of Snowdon.
