Who is Francois Letexier? The referee for Argentina vs Egypt

Mohamed Salah #10 of Egypt speaks with referee Ramon Abatti during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G match between Belgium and Egypt at Seattle Stadium on June 15, 2026 in Seattle, Washington.

Argentina and Egypt face one another in the World Cup round of 16 as they look to book a spot in the quarter finals.

Lionel Messi is hoping to add to his goals tally as he pushes to win the competition's golden boot, while Egypt will just be hoping they can cause an unlikely upset.

In between the two sides, will be a French official with plenty of experience.

The 37-year-old is very experienced and was the youngest ever referee to take charge of a Euros final when he oversaw Spain's victory over England two years ago.

He followed that up with appearances in the Champions League and last season's Europa League final, in which Aston Villa beat Freiburg.

He will be joined on the field by two fellow Frenchmen, in the shape of Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni.

The pair will be providing assistance from the touchlines.

Two more French members of the officiating team will be on Video Assistant Referee duties, with Jerome Brisard assisted by Willy Delajod and Moroccan Hamza El Fariq.

Meanwhile, a pair of referees from El Salvador will be helping out, with Ivan Barton acting as fourth official and David Moran as reserve assistant referee.

The game will take place at the Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia and will kick off at 5pm UK time on Tuesday.

It will be shown on ITV in the UK.
