Who is Carol Kirkwood's partner as she reveals engagement live on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has revealed that she’s engaged to be married - but she’s so far kept the identity of her fiancé under wraps.

The engagement was revealed live on air, when Carol was reporting from the Chelsea Flower Show with her new sparkly engagement ring on her finger.

Her colleagues Sally Nugent and Jon Kay couldn’t resist drawing viewers' attention to it, with Sally joking that she was “a bit concerned about how you’re standing up with a giant rock on that left hand”.

“We got engaged when we were on holiday. So it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled,” Carol explained, saying that the couple were both “so, so delighted”.

She added that she’d gone out for a picnic while holidaying with her partner, only for him to pop the question unexpectedly. Carol admitted that, at first, she “thought he was joking”.

While the identity of Carol Kirkwood’s fiancé remains unknown to the wider public, the Daily Mail reports that the presenter was recently seen holding hands with a man while shopping.

The pair were spotted together taking a trip to a supermarket near her Berkshire home several months ago, laughing and joking as they did so.

“They've been an item for quite a while and are still together. He spends a lot of time at Carol's lovely home by the River Thames,” a source told the newspaper.

“She's gone to great lengths to keep details about him a secret, but it won't stay that way for long.”

Carol was previously married to Jimmy Kirkwood for 13 years; the couple divorced in 2008. She is believed to have met her current partner several years ago.

The 59-year-old publicly confirmed last year that she was in a relationship, telling Prima that her partner was “best thing that's ever happened to me”.

“He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic - it's 2.45am and he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work,” she said.

“That, to me, is worth a million red roses.”
