Jess Harding and Sammy Root were crowned the winners of the 2023 summer Love Island series on Monday, July 31 — finding love and scooping the £50,000 prize money.
The pair joined a host of former loved-up Islanders — beating their rivals Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde, Molly Marsh and Zach Noble, and Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki.
They follow Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinananm, who won the winter series earlier in the year.
Since its beginnings in 2015, the show has seen many couples find love, with some staying together and others breaking up.
So who are the previous winners of Love Island? Here’s everything you need to know.
Who has won each season of Love Island since the ITV show started in 2015?
Jess Harding and Sammy Root - Series 10 (2023)
While 22-year-old Jess, from west London, was one of ten original Islanders to kick off the series, 22-year-old Sammy hit the Villa as a bombshell on day four. Although Jess was coupled up by viewers on day one with George Fensom, she was keen to get to know him.
The two had a somewhat of a difficult journey before becoming boyfriend and girlfriend, with Jess becoming frustrated when Sammy showed interest in new girls coming into the Villa. However, he committed to Jess in the final weeks of the show, before the pair took home the Love Island crown.
Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan - Series 9 (2023)
The pair stayed together from start to finish and were crowned winners, much to the delight of all the fellow Islanders. After being crowned winners, Sanam told host Maya Jama: “For me, it was always Kai. I always said he was my number one. Obviously he’s a very attractive guy and apart from the looks, I lo-”, but stopped just short of saying “I love you” on national TV.
Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti - Series 8 (2022)
The pair started with a very bumpy road in the villa, but the duo eventually won the nation’s hearts and have since gone on to delight fans by appearing in a spin-off show together that follows their lives post-villa, Ekin-Su & Davide: Homecomings. Ekin-Su also appeared on Dancing on Ice and was the third celebrity to be voted out.
Unfortunately, the pair announced they had split last month.
Liam Reardon and Millie Court – Series 7 (2021)
Liam and Millie emerged as the 2021 champions of Love Island, beating Day 1 couple Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran as well as Faye Winter and Teddy Soares to that £50,000 prize money.
On July 13, the couple announced that they’d split up after a year of dating. They won the £50,000 prize on Love Island in 2021 and the duo had been living together since last September.
However, the pair have decided to go their separate ways with both of them admitting they were “gutted” their romance was over in separate statements on social media.
Paige Turley and Finn Tapp – Series 6 (2020)
Paige and Finn became the first Winter Love Island winners in 2020.
In April, Paige addressed rumours that the couple had split, saying on her social media: Guys, now I’ve seen a lot of articles but that one has got to be up there...EASTER APART?! The actual toxicness that we can’t spend a week apart, he’s had two f*****g years of me, give the guy a break!”
However, two months later, the pair confirmed they had split.
Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea – Series five (2019)
Amber and Greg split up a few weeks after they left the villa, with Greg returning to his career in rugby, and Amber becoming a successful social media influencer, with 2 million followers.
Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer – Series 4 (2018)
Unfortunately, after dating for six months and purchasing a puppy together, while sharing a house, Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer’s relationship fell apart, meaning Jack missed the golden opportunity of having Danny Dyer as his father-in-law.
Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies – Series 3 (2017)
Kem and Amber’s relationship did not last long after they left the villa and they broke up around six months later.
Professionally, they are the most successful couple to emerge from the show, with Kem becoming a well-known face in the UK through stints on shows such as Dancing On Ice, as well as regularly hosting This Morning.
Amber was cast in a role in 9 to 5, seeing her success rise on the stage.
Cara De la Hoyde and Nathan Massey – Series 2 (2016)
Cara and Nathan separated after they won the show in 206, but Cara discovered she was pregnant and the baby brought them back together.
Since the birth of their first son Freddie, they have also welcomed a daughter, Delilah, in July.
Jessica Hayes and Max Morley – Series 1 (2015)
Jess and Max were the first-ever winners of the revamped version of Love Island, and the couple sadly split up after just six weeks together after leaving the villa.
Since then, Max has travelled the world, and Jess has moved on with new flame Dan Lawry, and they have a child together, Presley.
