The race will soon be on to replace Liz Truss as Conservative party leader - and Prime Minister.
Truss resigned on Thursday (October 20), spending just 44 days in the job after a turbulent few weeks in power. Outside Downing Street, she said there would now be a leadership election to replace her “to be delivered within the next week”.
Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the Tory 1922 Committee, said he expected the new leader to be in place by Friday, October 28 - ahead of the fiscal statement due to take place on Monday October 31. There's already been speculation surrounding which Tory MPs might put themselves forward.
