Who are The Last Dinner Party? Indie band win Brits Rising star award

Indie band The Last Dinner Party won the Brits Rising Star prize on Thursday evening, after being nominated alongside Sekou and Caity Baser.

They join the likes of recent winners Flo, Holly Humberstone, and Griff, as well as superstars Adele, Sam Smith, Florence and the Machine, Tom Odell, and Sam Fender.

The band told reporters: "We are so proud beyond measure to have won the Brits Rising Star.

“It’s an honour to achieve something so iconic so early on in our career, and we can only hope to keep making music that connects with all the incredible people who have listened to and supported us so far. Thank you.”

The award celebrates British artists who have not achieved a top 20 album, or more than one top 20 single by the end of October.

So who are The Last Dinner Party? This is what you need to know about the indie band destined for great success

Who are The Last Dinner Party?

The Last Dinner Party was formed in 2020 after its members bonded over going to various gigs across London, they previously told the Evening Standard

The band are Abigail Morris on vocals, Georgia Davies on bass, Lizzie Mayland on guitar, Aurora Nishevci on keyboards, and  Emily Roberts on guitar.

They developed their sound — inspired by the likes of Kate Bush and David Bowie — during lockdown and even recorded their debut album last year.

However, they have decided to wait to release their album so that they could build up their reputation by gigging around London.

This year, they’ve supported Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey on tour, and performed at various UK festivals.

They famously invite their fans to dress up for gigs; previous themes have included folk-horror and The Velvet Goldmine.

In June, they played at Glastonbury festival, which Davies previously told the Standard was “a childhood dream come true".

In April, the band released their single Nothing Matters, followed by Sinner and My Lady Of Mercy. Their latest single, On Your Side, was released last month.

What’s next for The Last Dinner Party?

The Last Dinner Party are supporting Hozier on tour this month, including at a London gig on December 15.

They will play several gigs at HMV and Rough Trade locations across the UK in February next year, before touring Europe.

Their tour stops include Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona and Porto, and Down the Rabbit Hole in the Netherlands.

Their debut album, Prelude to Ecstacy, will be released on February 2, 2024.

Davies told the Standard in July: “We just want to put it out now because we have something to prove.

“We did this great single, but we’ve got more that we’re so proud of.”
