While SFA proposals should pass club self-interest will as always play its part

Man, said Napoleon Bonaparte, is driven by fear and self-interest. Heaven knows why anyone thinks the people who run football clubs should act any differently.

Directors of Celtic, Rangers, Hearts – and any other club you care to mention – answer to their shareholders and supporters. You wouldn’t think Celtic especially cares what their fans think at times, but no matter. In a straight fight between their own financial and competitive welfare and the greater good, there really is no contest.
